Girona FC, known as albirojos for the colors of the kit, has been around since 1930, but in Spanish Football, they have spent most of their history in the the lower divisions (second and third). For the 2022-2023 season, it represents the 3rd time that Girona will be representing the futbol club in the Top Tier. Girona FC is also one of the clubs that were greatly impacted from the Spanish Civil War, as multiple bombs in the Cataluña region ravaged facilities and did put the progress of the club behind. But seven and eight decades later, the club is experiencing its greatest success, relatively speaking. In 2018-2019 Girona FC experienced their greatest success in the Copa del Rey making it into the quarterfinals, which unfortunately, was met with their relegation back to La Segunda (which before 2022 promotion, was the last time they made it to the top tier league).

Do note, in August 2017, City Football Group (CFG) purchased 44.3% ownership in Girona, whereas, 44.3% was held by Girona Football Group, led by Pere Guardiola (who happens to be the brother of Pep Guardiola)
