EFL (League) Cup

Current Champion: Manchester United

The
EFL Cup (referred to as the League Cup), currently known as the Carabao Cup for sponsoring rights. The tournament is played over seven rounds, with single-leg ties except for the semi-finals. The final is held at Wembley, which is the only tie in the competition played at a neutral venue and on a weekend (Sunday). An implication often overlooked is that the winners get a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Should the winner also qualify for Europe through other means at the end of the season, the highest-placed Premier League team not already qualified for European competition gets the spot. Now in relation to the status of what this means, it is the lowest prestige between the Premier League and FA Cup. This competition is closed for only league tier'd sides of the English Football System. Although the pot to other tournaments is not as significant from the other competitions, it is a measure of prestige. And in recent years the trophy has been dominated by Manchester City, with a Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea sprinkle. For instance, in the last 9 championships, Manchester City have won six of the nine, with the other three aforementioned club winning one. Read more for full list of champions and runner ups.
