Current Champion: Real Madrid
We think the Copa del Rey is truly a beautiful, organic, and humble competition that just like its organic roots, must survive brutal winters as the competition blooms into the spring. Simply, "La Copa" is an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. La Copa, founded in 1903, is the oldest Spanish football competition, which is one of the oldest national competitions. The older sister competition can be compared to the FA Cup via the England and Wales regions (older as the FA Cup was founded in 1871) La Copa is the second oldest when comparing to the four major football leagues (Coppa Italia founded in 1922 and Coupe de France in 1917). Supercopa de España (Spanish Super Cup) founded in 1982, was a 2-team competition; currently it is contested (since 19/20) by 4 teams: winners and runners-up of the Copa del Rey and La Liga (2 team version only the winners). Current venue rights are in Saudi Arabia. In terms of status and prestige, the Supercopa is technically the third highest, after La Liga and Copa del Rey domestically. However, due to partnerships, there is a big prize for the winners. It is said, as per 2022 figures, that each semifinalist will pocket 800K Euros. The runner up will collect 2.8M Euros, while the club that wins the whole competition will be able to pocket 4.6M Euros.
